What does community actually mean

In Religion, Year 5 have been thinking about community. What does community actually mean and how can we help others in our parish and beyond? Earlier in the unit, children created thoughtful posters for different charities that may exist in our area. Many of the children’s posters asked for more food bank donations for those that need it.
Following this, a visit was arranged to Manchester South Central food bank which serves the communities of Whalley Range, Moss Side and Hulme. The children learned a great deal about how items are donated not only by others but local supermarkets and bakeries. We looked at what items they had and what they needed more of such as sugar and a variety of toiletries. The children, with support from the inspiring volunteering team, helped to pack a box filled with items which will go to an individual in the area.
