Welcome to Year 2

We hope you have had a lovely time over the summer and we are sure you are now ready to begin your adventure in Year 2.

We are looking forward to getting to know you and working together so that we have a very exciting and productive year. We hope that you enjoy the new challenges and approaches to learning that Year 2 has to offer! There are so many events and experiences to look forward to this year to celebrate.

Reading in Year 2

We encourage children to read regularly at home. Your child will have two books- a staged reading book and a library book. Children will also have the opportunity to build on reading skills and strategies with their teacher during guided class reading sessions. Mrs. Doyle and Ms. Lalley will also hear your child read individually. We will have a library session every Friday where children can choose a library book to enjoy at home.

Spelling in Year 2
Every Monday, children will receive a list of spellings that should be learned for the weekly spelling test, which takes place every Friday.
Children will be tested on the statutory word list for year 2 at various points in the school year. Your child will bring home a copy of these words. Please ensure that your child takes time to learn both their weekly spellings and the meanings of the words.

Homework in Year 2
Your child will receive homework weekly on a Friday. Children can also play games on Times table Rock Stars. Please make time to read with your child and
also give time for your child to practise their times tables, spellings and number bonds.

General Reminders…
• Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their P.E. kit on a Monday and Tuesday each week.
• Children may bring in a water bottle for classroom use throughout the day.
• Children may bring in a healthy snack to eat at playtime. The children will also have fruit provided daily.
• Please remind your child to bring in their school bag every day.
• Please bring in library book every Friday.
