Welcome to Year 2

Welcome back we hope you had a wonderful summer!

This year in Year 2 we have two teachers, Ms Hines Monday to Thursday and Miss George on a Friday and Mrs Doyle and Mrs Kazmierczak are part of our teaching team.

We are very much looking forward to this year and are certain it will be a positive and happy year for all the children. 

In Year 2 we will be giving out spellings and mental maths on a Friday to be kept at home and practised ready for the tests the following Friday.  All the words are based on the Key Stage 1 spelling lists and also additional spelling related to topics. The Maths will consist of a lot of number work and facts to memorise. For example number bonds and the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times table.

Different forms of reading will take place in school throughout the week but we expect children to read at home for 20 minutes daily.  Please fill in the reading record book once you have heard your child read.

PE will be on a Tuesday and a Friday and we would like the children to wear their kit to school and they will stay in the kit for the full day. PE kit is plain white or school logo t-shirt, black or navy shorts or jogging bottoms and black trainers or pumps.  Please make sure they also have their school sweatshirt over their t-shirt and shorts.

Homework in Year 2 will be a pack given at the beginning of the year which is to be worked through at your child’s pace. Also some number cards which can be used for games to re-enforce mental maths skills. This does not need to come back to school.
