Welcome to Year 4

It’s good to see you again and to welcome all the children who are new to our class. Here is some information about the things we will be doing in Year 4.

Reading in Year 4   We encourage all children to read regularly at home, by themselves and out loud to an adult. Your child will have two books- a staged reading book and a library book. They also have a login to access the online reading scheme ‘Bug Club.’  Children will also have the opportunity to improve their reading skills with their teachers during guided reading sessions in class and in small groups.

Spelling in Year 4

Every Friday, children will receive a list of spellings that should be learned at home. We will normally have a spelling test on Tuesdays and an opportunity to put those words into sentences.

Homework in Year 4

Your child will receive homework on a Friday which should be completed by the following Thursday. Some of this work will be research projects using the internet or books from a library. Some will be extending and practicing things that we have learnt in the classroom. There is also Times Tables Rock Stars and Bug Club to use if you have time.

Swimming in Year 4

Please remember your Child’s swimming costume and towel on Tuesdays. Swimming is part of the Year 4 curriculum and it is important for every child to learn. Please remember that the swimming pool instructors do not allow children to wear ear-rings or studs in lessons.

We will be doing dance for our PE lessons this term. Come to school in your PE kit on Fridays.

General Reminders…

  • Children may bring in a water bottle for classroom use throughout the day.
  • Children may bring in a healthy snack to eat at playtime.
