Year 4 2020 - 2021
We do hope you have had an enjoyable summer holiday. It is a pleasure for me to introduce myself alongside Mrs Durante as your child’s new teaching team in Year 4. We have an exciting programme of study with lots of activities we know your children will enjoy!
To ensure the best quality of teaching and learning for your child, we will be encouraging everyone to read daily. Children will be asked to bring their reading book in each day and they will be supported to read independently, as a group, to the whole class and to you at home, as we know this has a huge impact on their confidence and their verbal and written language skills. We know you will support us when possible and reading for just a short while with your child in the evenings can make a huge difference to their progress throughout the year.
With regards to study time outside of school, Children have taken a vote and they would like their spellings for the week given to them on Monday, ready for their test on Friday. Likewise, they have voted to receive their homework on Thursday ready to be returned to school the following Tuesday.
In Year 4 children are very enthusiastic to participate in swimming lessons and we are reminded of the important life skill this is and high on the National Curriculum agenda. Our swimming lessons will begin in the morning on Tuesday 11th September at the Manchester Aquatic Centre and will continue throughout the autumn term on Tuesdays. We will leave school after registration and return at break time. All children will be required to wear the appropriate swimming kit, full costumes for the girls and trunks for the boys; NOT casual baggy shorts. Moreover, any child with their hair below their ears MUST wear a swimming cap for hygiene purposes.
In Year 4, P.E will be on Tuesdays and Friday and we ask parents/ guardians to ensure their child brings their P.E Kits in on Monday so they can be returned home at the end of the day on Friday. We often have activities throughout the week also which may require your child to have their P.E kit outside normal P.E slots. Please refer to the P.E uniform policy on our website.
We will do our upmost to ensure your child has the most enjoyable and successful time in Year 4 and we look forward to working closely with you.
These websites will help us with our work throughout the year.
