We do hope you have had an enjoyable summer holiday despite all the ups and downs with the events of late. To ensure the best quality of teaching and learning for your child at this present time, we will be encouraging everyone to read daily in class. Children will not be bringing their reading books home. However, we would certainly encourage parents and family members to read where possible age appropriate literature at home with their child. We will continue to encourage children to read independently in school and with the whole class. It is important now more than ever, following a considerable amount of time out of school that children get back into the routine of reading daily as we know this has a huge impact on their confidence and their verbal and written language skills. We know you will support us when possible and reading for just a short while with your child in the evenings can make a huge difference to their progress throughout the year.

With regards to study time outside of school, spellings for the week will be given on Monday and remain at home, ready for their test on Friday.  Homework sheets will be given to the children on Fridays ready to be returned to school and placed in transparent sleeves, the following Wednesday, ready to be marked.

In Year 4, children are very enthusiastic to participate in swimming lessons and we are reminded of the important life skill this is and high on the National Curriculum agenda. Our swimming lessons will be on Tuesday mornings at the Moss Side Centre and will continue throughout the autumn term on this day. We leave school at 10.20 and return at 11.45. All children will be required to wear the appropriate swimming kit, full costumes for the girls and trunks for the boys; NOT casual baggy shorts. Moreover, no earrings are to be worn and any child with their hair below their ears MUST wear a swimming cap for hygiene purposes.

In Year 4, P.E will be on Monday afternoon this term with our Manchester City coach, Dan and children can come to school wearing their kits for the day. Please refer to the P.E uniform policy on our website.

We will do our upmost to ensure your child has the most enjoyable and successful time in Year 4 and we look forward to working closely with you.
