Year 6 2020 - 2021

Our blog page

We hope you have had a lovely time over the summer and we are sure you are now ready to begin the final year of primary school in Year 6!

We are looking forward to getting to know you and working together so that we have a very exciting and productive year. We hope that you enjoy the new challenges and approaches to learning that Year 6 has to offer! There are so many events and experiences to look forward to this year to celebrate your final year at primary school.

Reading in Year 6

By Year 6, most children have the ability and skills required to enjoy reading independently.  We encourage children to read regularly at home, however currently we cannot give your child a reading book due to Covid restrictions.  Children will also have the opportunity to build on reading skills and strategies with their teacher during guided class reading sessions.

Spelling in Year 6

Every Monday, children will receive a list of spellings that should be learned for the weekly spelling test, which takes place every Friday.

Children will be tested on the statutory word list for years 5 and 6 at various points in the school year. Your child will bring home a copy of these words. Please ensure that your child takes time to learn both their weekly spellings and the meanings of the words.

Homework in Year 6
Currently we cannot send home work due to Covid restrictions. We have a new school website and very soon we will be able to set homework on there…watch this space! Please make time to read with your child and also give time for your child to practise their times tables and number bonds.

General Reminders…

  • Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their P.E. kit on a Monday each week.
  • Children may bring in a water bottle for classroom use throughout the day.
