Welcome to Year 6

We hope you had a lovely summer and are feeling rested and ready for a busy year full of hard work and excitement.

This year, the Year 6 team will be: Miss Diamond, Miss McGhie and Mr Williams. We are looking forward to getting to know you and working together so that we have a fun and productive year. We hope that you enjoy the new challenges and many responsibilities that comes with being in Year 6! We have many exciting things planned to ensure that your final year of Primary School is as memorable as possible.

Reading in Year 6

We encourage children to read every night at home. Your child will have two books- a reading book and a library book. Please record any reading your child has completed at home in their reading record. Children will have many opportunities to read at school. These will include: whole class guided reading sessions, class library sessions, 1-1 reading with an adult and reading for pleasure.

Homework in Year 6

Homework in Year 6 allows children to take independence of their own learning. We suggest that each child does at least 20 minutes reading every night, at least 20minutes on Times Table Rockstars and at least 20 minutes on Spelling Shed. These will be updated and checked daily to check the progress your child is making on them at home. If your child is unsure of how to log in, please ask them to speak to a member of staff in the class. This should total to about one hour of home learning focusing on skills that will help them develop in many areas of the Year 6 curriculum.

General Reminders…

• Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on Tuesday and Wednesday (Manchester City Coach).
• Children may bring in a water bottle for classroom use throughout the day.
• Children may bring in a healthy snack to eat at playtime.
• Reading books and reading records should be in school every day.

If you have any questions at any stage throughout the next year, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
